Here are some tips on Eco-Safe-Driving
- Keep your car in good serviceable condition. Regular maintenance and quality repairs can make the vehicle run more efficiently. Checking your vehicle over regularly, for instance, incorrect tyre pressures can cost you 3 to 4 mpg extra. Keeping a regular check on your fuel consumption can tell you if something isn't quite right.
- Empty your vehicle of any unwanted items, less weight means less effort = less fuel used. Remove unwanted roof racks, the extra drag can cost £'s
- Plan your journeys; can you travel at a quieter time of day? Less congestion means less time stood still with the engine running. If you do get stuck in traffic consider turning your engine off.
- Don't push your vehicle; a heavy right foot can waste gallons of fuel over a life time. When using your pedals, be gentle and progressive, plan well ahead and try not to brake hard and late, use engine braking whenever possible. Also think about changing gear less, do you need to use that gear, or can you miss it out. (Block changing is now a normal accepted way of driving) Use the highest gear possible without making the vehicle struggle.
- If you are buying a new vehicle or a fleet of vehicles consider ones with low emissions, they may not be as cool or trendy, but could save you hundreds or thousands over its working life.
- When parking your vehicle always park so that you can drive out when you move off, manoeuvring when the vehicle is cold uses more fuel
